The United States Embassy will implement new visa interview requirements for Nigerian applicants at its consulates in Abuja and Lagos starting from April 22, 2025.
In a statement released on Friday, the embassy announced that all applicants must present a DS-160 confirmation form featuring a barcode beginning with “AA” followed by two zeros (“00”). Importantly, this barcode must exactly match the one used when scheduling the appointment online.
Applicants whose barcode details do not match will be denied entry to the Consular Section and will forfeit their scheduled interview.
“You must bring a DS-160 form with a confirmation number beginning with AA00 that matches your appointment,” the embassy stated. “Also, ensure your appointment is booked at the same location selected when filling out your DS-160.”
To avoid complications, applicants are encouraged to verify their barcode and appointment details at least two weeks before their interview. The embassy also stressed that old DS-160 forms cannot be reused. If an error is found, applicants should log into their AVITS account at least 10 days before the interview to request a correction.
Those turned away due to mismatched details will need to fix the issue and book a new appointment. If their visa fee has expired by then, a new payment may be necessary.
Additionally, since January 1, all applicants have been required to visit the US Consulate General in Lagos twice as part of the visa application process.
