Senate President Godswill Akpabio has advised Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to resolve internal conflicts within his party before aspiring to lead the country.

Obi, speaking at a tribute to the late Chief Edwin Clark, had expressed concern over Nigeria’s current state, suggesting that the sacrifices of past leaders have been undermined.

He criticized the public’s silence on fuel price increases and argued that dissent is now equated with being unpatriotic.

Responding during the same event, Akpabio questioned Obi’s readiness for national leadership.

“If you can’t resolve the crisis in your party, how can you handle Boko Haram or other major national issues?” he asked. “Leadership starts at home.”

Akpabio highlighted his own record as governor, pointing to infrastructure development, free education initiatives, and religious pilgrimage support.

He also warned against the polarizing impact of social media and emphasized the need for political leaders to prioritize unity and party cohesion before addressing national matters.
