Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an immediate review of a road construction project in the Aduramigba community, Ido-Osun, following protests by residents over the poor quality of work delivered by the contractor.
The residents held a peaceful demonstration against the shoddy construction of a 4.76-kilometre road, carrying placards with messages such as “We say no to no drainage and stone base road,” “Don’t cause quick pain for six communities,” and “We kick against corruption on this project.”
Sunday Ogundele, chairman of the Aduramigba community, criticized the project’s lack of a proper drainage system and described the work as substandard. “They began tarring the road on Sunday and Monday, but by Thursday, rainfall had already washed away parts of the asphalt,” he said.
In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued a statement confirming that officials from the Ministries of Rural Development and Works, alongside the O-RAMP Project team, had visited the site to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and deliver the governor’s directive.
“The delegation communicated Governor Adeleke’s order for an immediate review of the road construction and instructed that corrective measures be implemented in line with best practices,” the statement read.
The team further assured residents that the state government is also reviewing other essential community needs.
Engagements are ongoing with the contractor and project managers to compile a comprehensive report, which is expected to be submitted to the governor by Monday for further action.
