Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has called out Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, over his silence regarding the recent arrest of controversial social media personality, Verydarkman (VDM).
In a post shared on social media platform X, Adeyanju expressed dismay that Falana widely regarded as a stalwart of civil liberties has yet to publicly condemn the detention.
“Our revered leader and mentor, Femi Falana SAN, is yet to condemn the arrest of VDM. Interesting times indeed,” he wrote.
VDM’s arrest has sparked widespread outrage, especially online, where public figures and rights advocates have demanded his immediate release. Protests have also broken out in Abuja, highlighting growing unrest over perceived attacks on free speech.
Reflecting on past events, Adeyanju recalled defending a critic during Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency, even though the individual had incited violence against him.
“When the boy who led people to attack me under Buhari was arrested, I was the first to condemn it,” he noted.
Adeyanju suggested that VDM’s continued detention is part of a broader pattern of silencing dissent through state authority.
The controversy remains a trending topic across social platforms, with increasing pressure on the government to address concerns over rights and transparency.
