The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed allegations that he embarrassed Senator Sani Musa, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, during a recent plenary session.

In an official statement titled “Clarification on Misleading Reports Regarding Senate Proceedings” released from Abuja on Friday, Akpabio described the circulating accounts particularly those shared on social media and platforms such as Linda Ikeji’s Blog as inaccurate and misleading.

“I have seen reports circulating on social media claiming that Senator Sani Musa was harshly criticized during plenary over his inability to define the term ‘harmonized.’ These assertions are entirely baseless,” Akpabio stated.

He clarified that no such incident occurred. Instead, when Senator Musa was invited to speak, Senator Abdul Ningi raised a point of order that required immediate consideration according to Senate procedures.

This procedural issue was duly addressed, and the session continued without any breach of decorum.

Akpabio further commended Senator Musa’s leadership, especially his role as chairman of the Conference Committee that successfully harmonized the Tax Reform Bills a notable achievement widely praised by both chambers and stakeholders.

“The Nigerian Senate operates with respect, order, and integrity,” the Senate President affirmed, urging media outlets to uphold accuracy and responsibility in their coverage of the National Assembly.

“Public engagement is welcomed, but it must be grounded in facts rather than sensationalism,” he emphasized.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding the dignity of the Senate and called for continued respect towards its members.
