The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) unfolds tonight at the iconic Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, spotlighting the very best in African cinema and television.

 

As the continent’s most prestigious film and television awards, the AMVCAs celebrate top-tier storytelling, performance, and production.

 

This year’s ceremony promises a vibrant display of talent and glamour, with some of the industry’s biggest names set to hit the stage and red carpet.

 

Fashion, as always, takes center stage alongside the awards. Celebrities are expected to serve up bold, elegant, and culturally rich styles, continuing the AMVCA tradition of trendsetting and spectacle.

 

The Red Carpet, broadcast live like the ceremony itself, remains a highlight of the evening.

What’s in Store

Awards will be handed out in 28 categories: 10 decided by public vote, 16 by a panel of industry professionals, and two special recognitions the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Trailblazer Award. Eligible entries span content released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

 

Front-runners this year include Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way. Streaming platforms continue to shape the industry, with five of the eight Best Movie nominees debuting on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Netflix’s Seven Doors leads with 11 nominations, followed by Lisabi with 10. House of Ga’a and Inkabi each earned six nods, while Christmas in Lagos follows closely with five.

A new addition this year is the Best Music Score category, honouring the creative power of music in film storytelling.

 

The four-day AMVCA festivities wrapped up with Friday’s colourful Cultural Day celebration. Now, all eyes are on tonight’s grand finale an unforgettable evening of brilliance, emotion, and recognition for Africa’s finest in entertainment.
