Africa’s wealthiest man and Chairman of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced a commitment of N15 billion towards the transformation of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, into a world-class institution.

Formerly known as Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST), the state-owned university is set to undergo a major upgrade under a five-year development plan funded by the Dangote Foundation. The announcement was made by Dangote, who also serves as Chancellor of the university, during its 5th combined convocation ceremony held on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Dangote said the multi-billion-naira investment would focus on infrastructure and capacity development, aimed at positioning the university among the top three in Nigeria.

“Over the next five years, we will commit N15 billion to the development of ADUSTECH,” he said. “This includes the design and construction of additional student hostels, modern classrooms, a world-class multipurpose computer laboratory with full internet facilities, a mini solar power plant for constant electricity, a befitting Senate building, and job placements for top-performing engineering graduates.”

He added that project implementation would be done in collaboration with the university’s Governing Council and managed under a strict project delivery framework to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, revealed that the institution was burdened with a N3 billion liability at the time he assumed office. He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for clearing over N2 billion of the debt and reaffirmed the institution’s academic progress, noting that 30 out of 40 academic programmes have been fully accredited.

Governor Yusuf, who was also present at the event, announced the government’s approval for the construction of internal road networks and drainage systems within the campus. He further assured stakeholders that additional intervention projects are in the pipeline to improve the university’s infrastructure and learning environment.
