Renowned Nigerian music stars David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and soul singer Bukola Elemide, known as Asa, are set to light up the opening ceremony of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) this Sunday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The grand ceremony will be held at the MKO Abiola Stadium by 5:00 p.m. and officially declared open by Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
Bukola Olopade, Director General of the National Sports Commission and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, confirmed their performances in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Kola Daniel.
“This is Nigeria’s Olympics, and everything about it from the organisation to the performances will reflect that level of excellence,” Olopade said. “The opening ceremony is crafted to showcase the very best of Nigeria.”
He emphasized the dedication of both the Ogun State Government and the National Sports Commission in delivering a top-tier event. “For two years, I’ve said Ogun will host the best NSF ever. Now, it’s happening.”
According to Olopade, Asa will open the ceremony while Davido will close it. “What comes in between will be a surprise,” he added. “But I guarantee Nigerians a spectacular show they won’t want to miss a second.”
Athletes from across the country began arriving on Friday, marking the start of the festival. Competitions in weightlifting and Kung Fu kicked off ahead of the formal opening.
This is the second time Ogun State will host the NSF, the first being in 2006.
