Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has issued a directive to all commissioners and political appointees in his administration to join him in defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or resign their positions.
The directive was reportedly given during an ongoing State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting on Thursday, where the governor officially announced his departure from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to align with the APC.
According to sources present at the meeting, Governor Eno made it clear that his decision should not come as a surprise to anyone.
“Anyone claiming to be unaware of my plan to leave the PDP is still living in the 18th century,” he remarked.
He explained that his decision was influenced by his admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style, expressing a desire to work more closely with the Federal Government.
Governor Eno also issued a strong warning to his appointees, stating there would be no room for negotiation with those unwilling to follow his political direction.
“Apart from elected officials such as House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you,” he asserted.
He further cautioned that any attempt to challenge him using the PDP structure would be futile:
“Let me be clear, anyone thinking they can remain in the PDP and use its structure to oppose me is deluding themselves. I will still control the party’s structure.”
As of the time this report was filed, the State Executive Council meeting was still ongoing, with further developments anticipated.
