Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has clarified that his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not intended to dismantle the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but rather to ensure the state’s continued development.

Speaking on behalf of the governor at a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the political realignment was a strategic move, as the PDP no longer presents a viable path forward ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Our decision to align with the APC is not about destroying the PDP,” Aniagwu stated. “It became clear that the PDP is unlikely to make meaningful progress in 2027, so we had to make a strategic shift to keep Delta moving forward.”

Oborevwori, alongside former governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other prominent PDP figures in the state, recently defected to the APC. The governor emphasized that the move is driven by a desire to prioritize the state’s development.

“We changed our driving pattern not out of malice, but to ensure progress for Delta. The goal remains the same—development and effective governance,” Aniagwu added.

Reflecting on the administration’s performance, he noted, “In less than two years, we have achieved significant milestones. Our road projects have drastically reduced travel time from Asaba to Ughelli to just one hour and forty-five minutes.”

Addressing critics who question the government’s direction, Aniagwu asserted, “Those who claim the administration is faltering are misinformed. We are fully focused and committed to delivering results for the people.”
