Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, is backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar solely for monetary gain.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Olayinka criticized Momodu for what he described as a shallow understanding of political dynamics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), particularly in relation to Peter Obi’s departure. He refuted claims that Wike played any role in Obi’s exit from the party.
Olayinka also accused Atiku of undermining the PDP as far back as 2003, citing his alleged role in sabotaging the party’s efforts to win Lagos State.
He questioned Atiku’s sincerity during the 2023 presidential primaries, pointing out that Atiku obtained the party’s nomination form before zoning arrangements were concluded even though he later advocated for zoning the ticket to the Southeast.
Dismissing accusations that Wike was responsible for the defection of figures like Senator Gbenga Daniel and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Olayinka argued that such departures stemmed from Atiku’s self-serving nature rather than external influence.
“The real reason people leave Atiku,” Olayinka asserted, “is because he is driven by personal ambition and lacks consideration for others.”
Turning his attention to Momodu, Olayinka labeled him a “fairweather friend” whose loyalty depends on financial incentives. “Once the money dries up, he’ll simply find a new sponsor,” he claimed.
Olayinka also took issue with Momodu’s remarks on ethnic identity, defending Wike’s pride in his Ikwerre heritage and accusing Momodu of distancing himself from his Edo origins.
