Nollywood actor and Lagos lawmaker Desmond Elliot has opened up about a terrifying ordeal he faced during the 2020 EndSARS protests, revealing how he narrowly escaped being set ablaze by unidentified attackers.
Speaking during an interview on Nollywood On Radio, Elliot recounted being stranded in his Surulere constituency office due to the government-imposed curfew. Unable to return to his Lekki residence, he chose to spend the night at the office, which is a decision that nearly cost him his life.
“During the curfew, a lot of hoodlums came into Surulere. I couldn’t make it home, so I stayed at the office,” he said.
The 51-year-old legislator explained that he was watching television, preparing to sleep, when he heard a disturbance outside. “Suddenly, I heard my landlady’s daughter screaming, saying I don’t stay there,” he said.
Moments later, a petrol bomb was hurled into the building. “That’s when I realized how serious it was and someone threw a bottle filled with fuel and fire into my office, and it caught fire,” Elliot revealed.
Fearing for his life, he urgently contacted the chief of staff for help. “I’ve never been so scared. It was a horrible experience,” he added.
