Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Player of the Year for the third time, following a stellar season that helped propel Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th English league title.
The Egyptian forward scored 28 goals and provided 18 assists in the Premier League, setting a new record for the most goal involvements in a 38-game season. His outstanding performances were instrumental in Liverpool’s first title triumph since 2020 under new manager Arne Slot.
Salah secured nearly 90% of the votes cast by football writers, the largest winning margin in over two decades. He previously won the award in the 2017–18 and 2021–22 seasons, and now joins Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the only players to receive the honour three times.
Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk finished second in the voting, followed by Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice.
Salah, 32, recently ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract, keeping him at Anfield until 2027. His commitment strengthens Liverpool’s bid to surpass Manchester United and become the most successful top-flight club in English football history.
In the women’s category, Arsenal striker Alessia Russo was named FWA Women’s Player of the Year, becoming the second Arsenal player to win the award. She edged out last year’s winner, Khadija Shaw.
