Dr. Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 elections in Cross River State, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) along with her supporters.
The defection took place on Friday at her ward, Edem Odo in Akpabuyo Local Government Area. Emana cited the achievements of the APC-led government both at the state and national levels as her reason for switching allegiance.
“I made the decision to join the APC after witnessing the impressive work done by Governor Bassey Otu. Only those who choose not to see will ignore the positive developments happening in our state. I’m proud to become part of the APC family,” she stated.
At the national level, Emana defended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying, “Yes, there are challenges, but transformation takes time. The president is putting the right people in the right places, and step by step, we are seeing improvements. These efforts encouraged me to return to the APC as a committed Cross Riverian.”
She emphasized that her defection was not driven by personal gain or political appointments, but by a desire to collaborate with the current government to bring democratic dividends to her constituents. She urged those in opposition to stop being “keyboard warriors” and instead contribute meaningfully to governance.
“I am a nation-builder. I believe in progress and results. When opposition parties are disorganized and lack cohesion, it’s clear they are not serious about governance. I’ve chosen to be where real work is being done,” she added.
Welcoming the new members, APC State Secretary Patrick Asikpo assured them of equal treatment within the party. “From today, you enjoy all the rights and privileges of APC members. There’s no old APC or new APC you’re fully part of the family,” he declared.
Also speaking at the event, former Minister of Tourism and ward leader, High Chief Edem Duke, described the defection as a political turning point.
“This is a major shift. Emana was one of the PDP’s most senior figures in the last election. Her decision to join the APC signals a realignment of political forces in Cross River State. With this momentum, 2027 will be a smooth ride for the APC,” Duke said.
