Former Education Minister and prominent social justice advocate, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has renewed her support for Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who recently accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Ezekwesili denounced what she described as “desperate, laughable falsehoods” aimed at discrediting her and silencing Akpoti-Uduaghan’s call for justice.
“Once again, Senator @NatashaAkpoti, You. Will. Never. Walk. Alone,” Ezekwesili wrote. “Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, the women of FIDA, and I stand firmly with you. Our pursuit of justice remains unshakable.”
She accused Akpabio and a “brigade of irresponsible politicians” of leading a coordinated smear campaign, warning that their tactics would not succeed.
“The world is watching as public institutions are weaponized for selfish ends intimidating and endangering a senator. But justice will prevail,” she said.
Calling for an independent investigation, Ezekwesili stressed that Akpabio must be held accountable.
In a statement titled Memo to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and All Truly Honourable Citizens of Nigeria, Ezekwesili also defended her own reputation, saying.
“No honest observer of my public life can believe the absurd allegations being peddled. My principles and voice are not for sale at any price.”
She urged Akpoti-Uduaghan to stay strong, pledging continued “unwavering, sacrificial support.”
Ezekwesili concluded with a message to Nigerians, urging them to reject distractions and demand accountability.
“Ignore the lies. See through the theatrics. This is an attempt to deflect attention from the real issue Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition against Senate President Akpabio.”
Quoting the senator’s own words, she ended with a powerful declaration.
“This injustice shall not be sustained.”
