UK-based Nigerian gospel singer and broadcaster Muyiwa Olarewaju has revealed that he was investigated as a suspect after reporting a robbery attempt to the police.
In a video shared on Twitter, Olarewaju described the incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m. in February. He said a young white man attempted to break into his car by smashing a window. Though unharmed, Olarewaju reported the incident and directed police to nearby CCTV cameras.
“I told the police where the cameras were and that my window had been smashed,” he said.
Despite this, police began investigating Olarewaju himself.
“I was the one under investigation,” he said. “I had to attend police interviews and hire legal representation. Thank God for Hanson Woods they were phenomenal.”
Although surveillance footage captured the suspect, police were reportedly unable to identify or locate him. Instead, Olarewaju was investigated for affray, a charge related to public disorder.
After three months, the case was dropped due to lack of evidence.
“They finally said there was nothing to pursue. They couldn’t find the attacker, and the charge against me had no basis,” Olarewaju said.
He concluded by encouraging others to be legally prepared.
“Be careful out there. Always have legal support ready. I believe the police try their best, but mistakes can happen.”
