Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has once again hinted at a possible departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), subtly suggesting a political shift that points toward the All Progressives Congress (APC), though he stopped short of making a formal declaration.
Speaking during a state banquet in Uyo on Thursday night to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Governor Eno expressed deep appreciation for the PDP but indicated it may be time for a new political direction.
“I respect our party, the PDP. I love the PDP. But we all know the way things are,” the governor remarked. “Whatever happens, wherever life’s journey takes me, I will always cherish the relationships we’ve built. Those friendships will remain.”
Though he has not officially confirmed a move to the APC, Governor Eno has in recent months increasingly aligned himself with key figures in the ruling party, including President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in what observers view as positioning for the 2027 general elections.
Reiterating his commitment to inclusive governance, he said: “If you have anything to do, invite me I’ll come. I’ll always be there. But it’s time to progressively move. This change will not affect governance in the state. We govern not by party lines but for the people.”
The governor also called for unity across political divides: “I want to see all our leaders seated together, regardless of party affiliation. Akwa Ibom must come first. Our people are found in PDP, APC, YPP, and IPAC, what truly matters is ensuring food, security, and welfare for all.”
Highlighting his administration’s ARISE Agenda, which he said covers all essential areas of development, Governor Eno concluded with a call for harmony: “Whenever anyone flies into Akwa Ibom, leave your party badge behind. You’re flying into a united state.”
