Renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has shared insights into her foray into politics, describing the experience as eye-opening and empowering.
Speaking during the #WithChude Live event hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, Akindele recounted her motivation to enter the political space and how it shaped her personal and professional growth.
“I got into politics because I genuinely wanted to help people and give back,” she explained. “But once I stepped in, I witnessed the chaos the shouting, the aggression. Then I started observing the women in politics. Their confidence, their command… and I thought to myself, ‘You can do this too.’”
Akindele, who was the deputy governorship candidate for Lagos State under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 elections, said the journey taught her vital lessons in bravery and resilience.
“I found my voice. I realized you have to be fearless and informed. Fear only limits you,” she said.
She added that the experience deepened her awareness and commitment to learning. “Politics changed me. I read more now, I understand my environment better. When I speak today, I speak with facts and figures.”
When asked if she would consider venturing into politics again, Akindele’s response was clear: “Absolutely. I’d do it again.”
