Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has confirmed that she visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 5, 2025. The visit followed her return from the United Kingdom and was in response to an official invitation concerning money spraying at her daughter’s recent wedding.
Amid growing public speculation, Ojo took to Instagram to clarify the situation, revealing that the EFCC questioned her about her background, career, and, most notably, the events surrounding the wedding ceremony.
According to the actress, EFCC officials presented video clips from the wedding showing guests, friends and colleagues who are spraying both Naira and foreign currencies. She expressed surprise upon learning that such actions are considered illegal under Nigerian law.
“I was informed that spraying money whether Naira or foreign currency is a punishable offence,” she explained. “I had always believed only the abuse or mutilation of the Naira was prohibited.”
Ojo noted that she was released the same day after her interview, although her lawyer, O.I. Salami, remained available in case further inquiries arise.
Offering advice to her fans and the general public, she stated: “I strongly urge everyone to refrain from spraying money at events in Nigeria. It’s time we rethink this cultural practice to avoid potential legal consequences.”
She concluded her message with a call for awareness and caution, thanking her supporters for their concern.
