Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, popularly known as the Queen Mother, has broken her silence following her recent questioning by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning her daughter’s high-profile wedding.
In a statement shared via Instagram on Tuesday, Ojo revealed that she was contacted by the EFCC while abroad in the United Kingdom. Upon her return to Nigeria, she honored the agency’s invitation and appeared at their office on Monday, May 5, 2025.
According to Ojo, the EFCC inquired about her personal background, career history, and details surrounding the wedding of her daughter, Priscilla Ojo, who recently tied the knot with Tanzanian musician Juma Jux.
“I recently had an experience with the EFCC in Nigeria after receiving an invitation while I was in the UK. I visited their office on May 5, 2025, where I was asked questions regarding my bio-data, career, work experience, and companies,” she wrote.
The actress said she was shown footage from the wedding that captured guests spraying both naira and foreign currencies.
“I was asked if I knew this was illegal. I explained that I believed only the abuse or mutilation of the naira was an offense,” she said.
Ojo admitted she was unaware that the act of spraying any currency, including foreign ones like the U.S. dollar, is prohibited under Nigerian law.
“The EFCC clarified that spraying money even foreign currency is not allowed. This experience has been eye-opening. I now encourage everyone to avoid spraying or mishandling money,” she added.
PUNCH had earlier reported on the luxurious wedding of Priscilla and Juma Jux, which drew widespread attention for its opulence.
