A high-stakes political coalition meeting in Abuja descended into chaos on Saturday when delegates from Jigawa State disrupted the event, objecting to a representative appointed without their input.

The meeting, hosted at the Abuja Continental Hotel by the National Political Consultative Group (North), brought together prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

The disruption began when Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced a speaker on behalf of Jigawa State.

Enraged by the unilateral decision, Jigawa delegates stormed the stage, halting the proceedings and refusing to allow the representative to speak.

Security personnel including operatives from the Nigerian Police, DSS, and private security teams intervened promptly, forming a protective cordon around key participants such as Atiku and Amaechi.

Following a tense standoff, order was eventually restored. Mustapha Lamido, son of former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido, along with another delegate, was appointed to represent the state.
