Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny has heaped praise on Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe after the Frenchman delivered a stunning performance in Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 win over Los Blancos.
Mbappe, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, scored a hat-trick in the match, once again proving to be a constant threat for Szczęsny. Reflecting on the game, the Polish shot-stopper admitted that the French forward seems to always find the net against him.
“Honestly, I admire Mbappe’s mentality,” Szczęsny told reporters, as quoted by BarcaUniversal. “Even when things aren’t going well for his team, he never gives up. I think he’s the player who has scored the most goals against me. In just four or five matches, he has scored eight or nine goals.”
Szczęsny also revealed that his current club is keen to retain him for two more seasons. However, he emphasized that the final decision would be a family one, led by his wife, Marina Luczenko-Szczęsna.
“I won’t hide that I’ve been offered a new two-year contract,” he said. “But I need to sit down with my family and discuss what’s best for us. Most of the decisions at home are made by my wife, and I’m not ashamed of that at all.”
Despite his best efforts, Szczęsny has only managed to win twice in five encounters against Mbappe, who continues to be a nemesis on the pitch.
