Luka Modric has announced he will leave Real Madrid following this summer’s Club World Cup, marking the end of a legendary chapter at the club.

The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder shared the news on Instagram, writing, “Everything in life has a start and an end… on Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabeu.” Modric expressed gratitude and pride, saying his heart is “full of unforgettable memories.”

Although he’ll no longer don the iconic white jersey after the Club World Cup, Modric affirmed, “I will always be a Madrid fan.”

Since joining from Tottenham in 2012 for around €35 million, Modric has made nearly 600 appearances for Real Madrid. Over his tenure, he’s won six Champions League titles, four La Liga crowns, and numerous other honors. Initially facing challenges, he evolved into one of the world’s premier midfielders.

His stellar 2018 season earned him the Ballon d’Or, following Real Madrid’s success and Croatia’s runner-up finish at the World Cup in Russia.

Reflecting on his time at the club, Modric said, “I’ve experienced incredible moments—unbelievable comebacks, finals, celebrations, and magical nights at the Bernabeu. We won it all, and I was very, very happy.”
