Manchester United are poised to activate Matheus Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause next week, paving the way for the striker’s move from Wolves to Old Trafford, according to reports.

Cunha has impressed since arriving at Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2023, enjoying a standout season with 17 goals across all competitions. His performances have attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, with United and Chelsea reportedly leading the race.

After being closely linked with the Brazilian forward over the past week, Sky Sports now reports that United are ready to finalise the deal by triggering his release clause. The move comes as the Red Devils look to strengthen their attack, especially with manager Ruben Amorim eyeing a new No. 10 to partner Bruno Fernandes in preferred 3-4-2-1 system.

Despite the growing speculation, Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has not confirmed Cunha’s departure. “I have the same information as you,” Pereira said. “I don’t know. I just know he’s my player. He’s committed to the team, he’s working with happiness, and we will see what happens. You must ask him. He is happy. I feel he is happy.”

With Manchester United’s domestic campaign winding down and nothing left to play for in the Premier League, their focus shifts to the Europa League final on Wednesday, May 21 against fellow English team Tottenham Hotspur. Securing European football next season would bolster their appeal to incoming signings like Cunha.
