Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday reaffirmed his administration’s strong pro-labour stance, highlighting a series of worker-focused initiatives and announcing over N4bn in pension bond to retirees.

The Governor made the announcement during the 2025 May Day rally held at Fakunle High School in Osogbo.

Addressing thousands of workers at the rally in Osogbo, Governor Adeleke described his administration as “of the workers, by the workers, and for the workers,” pledging to continue prioritizing their welfare despite current national economic challenges.

“In empathy with the harsh economic conditions facing Nigerians, we have worked hand-in-hand with the Federal Government to reduce the burden on our people,” Adeleke said.

“At the state level, we are prudently managing resources without borrowing while reducing inherited debts by over 40 percent. ”

Adeleke announced the approval of pension bond payments worth over N4.27 billion for retirees under the contributory pension scheme, including N2.17 billion for state-level retirees and N2.09 billion for local government and primary school retirees.

He also disclosed the commencement of the 2025 promotion exercise for eligible public servants and the timely payment of April salaries and allowances. The governor noted that his administration is nearing completion of the payment of a 30-month backlog of half salaries owed to contributory pensioners.

Other achievements listed include consistent implementation of the national minimum wage, settlement of salary deductions and promotion arrears left by previous administrations, and sustained investment in staff training and capacity building.

Adeleke praised the Head of Service and his team for their effective leadership, noting that his government remains fully committed to good governance and worker empowerment.

“We remain truly pro-workers, pro-people, and pro-good governance,” he concluded. “Our government has not and will not betray the confidence Osun workers have reposed in us” he added.

May Day in Osun was marked with parades, solidarity songs, and a show of unity between the state government and labour unions.
