Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has commended the resilience and dedication of the state’s workers, calling for greater protection of labour rights and improved working conditions across all sectors.

In a Workers’ Day message issued Thursday in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara expressed solidarity with the workforce, describing them as the backbone of the state’s progress and a symbol of hope during turbulent political times.

Reflecting on the 2025 Workers’ Day theme, “Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate,” Fubara underscored the urgent need to shield employees from escalating environmental hazards and socio-political challenges. He emphasized that workplace safety and employee well-being are critical to sustainable development.

Fubara also acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in advancing labour reforms and implementing climate-conscious policies aimed at improving work environments nationwide.

“Governor Fubara expressed deep gratitude to Rivers workers who, despite political turbulence and governance disruptions, continue to demonstrate patriotism, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to duty,” the statement read. “Their sacrifices form the cornerstone of the state’s stability and advancement.”

Reaffirming his commitment to workers’ welfare, the governor urged both public and private sector employers to uphold labour laws, ensure safe working environments, and respect the dignity of every worker. He called for continued efforts to improve conditions in line with legal standards and moral responsibility.

Fubara concluded with a call for divine guidance for leaders and reiterated his administration’s dedication to fostering a work culture rooted in dignity, opportunity, and shared prosperity.

He encouraged the people of Rivers State to remain united and hopeful, assuring them that “the forces of justice, peace, and progress will ultimately prevail.”
