Nollywood icon Mercy Aigbe has won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for her powerful role in Farmer’s Bride.

 

Aigbe’s stirring performance stood out in a tightly contested category, edging out strong performances by Meg Otanwa (Inside Life), Tina Mba (Suspicion), Ireti Doyle (All’s Fair in Love), Ini Dima-Okojie (Skeleton Coast), Omoni Oboli (Wives on Strike 3), and Darasimi Nadi (Aburo).

 

The AMVCA weekend kicked off with a vibrant Cultural Day on Friday, where stars dazzled in traditional African fashion, celebrating the continent’s rich cultural heritage ahead of Saturday night’s main event.

 

Hosted annually by Multichoice, the AMVCA honors excellence in film, television, and digital storytelling across Africa.

 

This year’s ceremony recognized productions released between January 1 and December 31, 2024, with winners chosen through a mix of public votes and a jury decision.

 

Top contenders this year included Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, all competing for major awards like Best Movie and Best Director.

 

In the lead acting categories, standout nominees were Best Actor: Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising)

 

Best Actress: Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline)
