Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has stated that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is not in competition with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). He emphasized that NNPCL is “an integral part of our business.”
Dangote made these comments during a visit to Bayo Ojulari, the newly appointed Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, in Abuja.
The visit, as confirmed by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, aims to strengthen the relationship between the two companies and promote a spirit of healthy competition.
The $20 billion Dangote refinery has experienced some tension with NNPCL, particularly regarding the supply of crude oil in naira.
Dangote had recently accused certain market forces of undermining his refinery, though he clarified that these “cabals” were prominent marketers, not the newly appointed NNPC leadership.
In the meeting, Dangote reiterated his commitment to collaborating with NNPCL’s new management to ensure Nigeria’s energy security.
“There is no competition between us; we are not here to compete with NNPCL. NNPCL is part and parcel of our business, and we are also part of NNPCL. This is a time for cooperation, not competition,” he asserted.
Both companies expressed their commitment to working together to ensure energy security for Nigeria and promote mutual prosperity. Dangote congratulated the new NNPCL management and voiced confidence in their ability to overcome upcoming challenges.
In response, GCEO Ojulari assured Dangote of a productive partnership based on healthy competition and collaboration. He praised NNPCL’s skilled workforce and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering value for the country.
Ojulari also emphasized NNPCL’s dedication to fostering national prosperity through innovation and collaboration with the Dangote Group, especially in areas that align with Nigeria’s commercial interests.
The statement concluded with both leaders pledging to continue cultivating their partnership, foreseeing abundant opportunities for both organizations in the future.
