Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists he has no regrets about the club’s season, despite once again falling short of silverware. With just two games remaining, the Gunners are aiming to secure second place in the Premier League and a strong finish after an otherwise competitive campaign.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash with third-placed Newcastle at the Emirates, Arteta acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on trophies, particularly after a narrow Champions League semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain and a recent dip in league form with just one win in their last six games.
“If you ask whether we wanted a different outcome, especially with how close we’ve come again, then the answer is yes,” Arteta admitted. “But that doesn’t take away from the phenomenal effort and achievements of this team, given the circumstances and the level of competition.”
Despite a season plagued by injuries and setbacks, Arsenal remain in the top four and are on track for Champions League qualification. However, a Newcastle win on Sunday would see them overtake Arsenal in the table with just one game left.
Arteta praised his squad’s resilience and reiterated the importance of finishing as high as possible.
“The dream of winning the Premier League is gone, so now the focus is to be the best of the rest,” he said. “It’s also a chance to say thank you to our fans for their incredible support this season.”
Newcastle, who have beaten Arsenal three times this season, once in the league and twice in the League Cup semi-finals will be a tough opponent, Arteta noted. A late decision will be made on Saturday regarding the fitness of forward Kai Havertz, who has been sidelined since February.
