The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Sunday Bisi, has dismissed concerns that recent defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) will affect Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of securing re-election in 2026.
Bisi described the wave of defections as “a storm in a teacup,” insisting that Governor Adeleke continues to enjoy widespread support across various sectors of society.
His remarks come amid reports that several PDP members have joined the APC, sparking speculation that Adeleke’s second-term bid could be threatened. Among those who recently defected is Wole Oke, a sitting member of the House of Representatives representing the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency. Also leaving the PDP was former senator Felix Ogunwale, who represented Osun Central between 2003 and 2007, along with some of Oke’s supporters.
The situation was further complicated by the public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid by all three PDP senators from Osun State, a move that has fueled anxiety within the party and drawn ridicule from the APC.
Despite these developments, Bisi remains confident in Adeleke’s popularity and performance. Speaking to our correspondent on Wednesday, he emphasized that the defections pose no real threat to the governor’s re-election hopes.
“These defections are not significant; they are just a storm in a teacup,” he said. “If we are talking about real defections, consider what happened in Delta State, where the governor and the entire PDP structure moved to the APC. That’s a major shift. What’s happening in Osun doesn’t come close.”
Bisi added that Adeleke’s achievements in infrastructure and social development have earned him the trust and support of Osun residents.
“Governor Adeleke is performing well, delivering good governance and impactful programmes. The people recognize this and will reward him with another term in 2026,” he stated.
