The operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps sustained injuries following a violent attack on the corps’ command base in the Egbedore Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Monday, the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, revealed that the assault occurred over the weekend at the Awo Command, shortly after operatives were called to intervene in a land dispute in the Iwoye community.

According to Idowu, the Oniwoye of Iwoye had invited Amotekun to prevent the illegal burial of an individual on ancestral land. However, upon arrival, the four deployed personnel found that the burial had already taken place. It was then that a notorious thug, Ismaila Aluko who is on the corps’ wanted list emerged with an armed gang and launched an attack, injuring the operatives.

To prevent further escalation, the personnel retreated to their command headquarters in Awo. However, the situation worsened as the gang regrouped and launched a second assault on the command office.

“In a brazen act of aggression, the attackers stormed the Awo office in the presence of law enforcement officers, including members of the Nigeria Police Force, a Department of State Services (DSS) officer, and relatives of the assailants,” Idowu stated.

During the attack, the gang attempted to disarm Amotekun personnel and inflicted varying degrees of injuries. One officer sustained serious wounds, while four others suffered minor injuries. All injured operatives were immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Describing the incident as a grave threat to public safety, the Amotekun Corps assured the public that it is collaborating with other security agencies to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to protect lives, property, and maintain peace across our communities,” Idowu affirmed.
