The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will follow the direction of Governor Ademola Adeleke regarding future political alignments, following the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term by the state’s three PDP senators.

Senators Kamarudeen Oyewumi (Osun West), Olubiyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) jointly declared their support for President Tinubu in a statement released on Wednesday. They cited the president’s achievements in governance, economic reforms, and infrastructure development, describing his administration as visionary and effective.

The senators commended improvements in national security and a reduction in food prices, asserting that these reflect President Tinubu’s capable leadership. “This endorsement is not merely symbolic; it represents our unwavering confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to fulfill the democratic mandate,” they said. “The Osun PDP Senators’ Caucus is united we stand as one without dissent.”

They also called on the president to continue and accelerate his developmental initiatives for the benefit of Nigerians.

In response, the Osun PDP leadership clarified that the party has not yet adopted a position on the 2027 presidential election and will be guided by Governor Adeleke, who is the recognized leader of the party in the state.

Oladele Bamiji, Director of Media for the Osun PDP, emphasized that while the senators are entitled to express their views, the party’s official stance will be determined by Governor Adeleke in consultation with key stakeholders.

“The governor remains the leader of the party in Osun. Whatever decision is taken regarding support for any presidential candidate in 2027 will be based on his direction and in the best interest of the state, the party, and Nigeria’s democratic development,” Bamiji said.

He acknowledged the senators’ roles at the national level but maintained that any final position must reflect the collective will of the Osun PDP. “Our lawmakers are in Abuja performing their duties, but here in Osun, we are focused on governance and party unity. Any endorsement must align with the broader consensus within the party.”

Bamiji concluded by reaffirming the governor’s leadership role, stating that he is expected to engage stakeholders across the state before making any definitive political commitments ahead of 2027.
