Osun PDP chieftain threatens recall of Wole Oke over defection to APC

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi, has threatened to initiate the recall of Hon. Wole Oke, the member representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oke, a fifth-term lawmaker, resigned from the PDP in a letter dated April 16, 2025, addressed to the party’s Ward 7 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area. During a recent appearance on Rave FM, a private radio station in Osogbo, Oke predicted the PDP’s decline in Oriade and Obokun and criticized the electoral strength of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s appointees in the area.

In response, Odeyemi challenged Oke to resign his current mandate, won on the PDP platform in 2023, and seek reelection under the APC to prove his popularity. He warned that failure to do so would prompt a recall process by constituents.

“We challenge him to vacate the seat and test his popularity in a fresh election. If he fails to do so, the people of Oriade/Obokun will begin the process of his recall,” Odeyemi said.

He also accused Oke of being a liability to the PDP, alleging that the lawmaker secretly supported the APC while in the party. “We’ve lost nothing. Instead, we’ve rid ourselves of a mole who undermined our progress,” he added.

Reacting to Odeyemi’s remarks, Oke posted videos from APC ward meetings in Ibokun and Ilare both in Obokun LGA which showing PDP defectors pledging support for the APC. In one of the clips, a speaker said in Yoruba, “APC will win all elections in Osun and across the country in 2026 and 2027”
