The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended an open invitation to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, signaling its readiness to welcome him into the party following comments he made that suggest a possible departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a constituency outreach on Tuesday in Ikot Akpankuk, Ukanafun Local Government Area, Governor Eno compared the PDP to a malfunctioning aircraft, implying that he may be considering switching allegiance to the APC.
“If you were about to board an Ibom Airline flight and it developed a fault that made it unable to take off, wouldn’t you take the next available flight to your destination?” Eno asked attendees at the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency event.
His remarks have been widely seen as a metaphor for his growing dissatisfaction with the PDP and a hint toward a possible defection.
Responding to the governor’s comments, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, in a statement issued Wednesday, April 30, 2025, said the ruling party fully agrees with Eno’s analogy and stands ready to provide him with a more viable political platform.
“As safety and comfort are essential for any flight, our great party assures Governor Eno that the APC plane is in top shape and ready to take him and his team to their political destination,” Morka stated.
“Our pilots and crew are experienced, attentive, and standing by. We promise the governor a smooth and memorable journey with us.”
The APC’s statement comes amid growing internal discord within the PDP, which has led to a wave of defections, most notably that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
