Real Madrid are on the verge of completing a £50 million move for Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen, having agreed to trigger his release clause.

The 20-year-old Spain international, who spent his formative years in Marbella and developed at Malaga and Costa Unida CF, is poised to return to his homeland. Despite strong interest from Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle, Huijsen has opted for Madrid and is now close to finalising personal terms.

The transfer fee will be paid in three instalments. As part of the agreement, Huijsen’s former clubs Juventus and Malaga are set to receive 10% and 5% of the total fee, respectively. The defender joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for £12.6 million and has impressed in his debut Premier League season with 34 appearances and three goals.

Sources tell BBC Sport that the deal is progressing smoothly, with a full agreement expected soon. Real Madrid are aiming to wrap up the signing before the Club World Cup in the U.S. next month.

Incoming manager Xabi Alonso is believed to have been instrumental in pushing for the transfer as part of his vision to reinforce the squad with promising young defenders.

Huijsen is expected to become Madrid’s second signing from the Premier League this summer, with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold also anticipated to make the switch to the Bernabéu.
