President Bola Tinubu will commission 11 completed road projects across Nigeria on Saturday, May 31, including the first completed section of the landmark Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
The Federal Ministry of Works announced the commissioning will take place both physically and virtually, following presidential approval granted to the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The event will be held at Kilometre 8 of the project corridor, near Jakande Estate in Lagos.
According to a statement by Umahi’s media aide, Orji Uchenna, the inaugurated portion of the highway—part of Phase I, Section I—stretches 30 kilometers from Ahmadu Bello Way on Victoria Island to Eleko Village on the Lekki Peninsula. The project is being executed by Hi-tech Construction Company.
The 700-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the flagship projects under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda. Once completed, it will span nine coastal states, significantly boosting economic connectivity, tourism, and investment opportunities in southern Nigeria.
In addition to the coastal highway, the president will commission 10 other completed road and bridge projects across several states:
Lagos–Ibadan Expressway (Shagamu–Ibadan section) – 166.8 km (RCC Nigeria Ltd)
East-West Road (Eleme Junction to Ahoada, Rivers State) – 94 km (Setraco Nigeria Ltd)
Alesi–Ugep Road, Cross River – 67.1 km (Sermatech Nigeria Ltd)
Ikorodu–Shagamu Road, Lagos/Ogun – 30.4 km (Arab Contractors)
Enugu–Lokpanta Expressway (First 16 km) – 61 km (rehabilitation)

Port Harcourt–Onne Junction (East-West Road) – First 15 km (RCC Nigeria Ltd)
Lagos–Badagry Expressway (Agbara–Seme Border) – 48.6 km (CGC Nigeria Ltd)
Additional infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope agenda will also be virtually commissioned, including segments of the Lagos–Badagry and Enugu–Port Harcourt expressways.
President Tinubu is also expected to flag off several new road projects, such as:
Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Benin Highway
Nembe–Brass Road
Reconstruction of parts of Enugu–Onitsha Expressway
Abakpa Flyover in Enugu State
Minister Umahi described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “signature Renewed Hope project” that represents a bold step toward transforming Nigeria’s road infrastructure. He emphasized the aesthetic and structural quality of the highway, calling it a “flagship of excellence in Africa.”
Preparations have been made to welcome dignitaries, including state governors (particularly from coastal states), National Assembly members, ministers, agency heads, and development partners. The ministry extended best wishes for safe travels to all attendees.
