Nollywood actor and director Tope Adebayo, popularly known for his role as Waheed in the hit series Jenifa’s Diary, has shut down long-standing rumours suggesting a romantic relationship with veteran actress Faithia Balogun.

In a candid interview on Baba Ibe TV’s YouTube channel, Adebayo addressed the speculation, clarifying that while he shares a deep and respectful bond with Balogun, there has never been any romantic involvement between them.

“One rumour that really broke my heart was when people accused me of having an affair with Aunty Faithia. Does that even make sense?” he said. “The truth is, no one really understands the nature of our relationship. But let me tell you this: Faithia is my benefactor, and that bond will always remain.”

Adebayo revealed that Balogun played a pivotal role in the early stages of his directing career. He recalled a moment when he shared his ambition to become a director with his father, veteran actor Salami Adebayo (Oga Bello), who initially laughed off the idea.

“My dad doubted me. He said being a director wasn’t an easy job, and that discouraged me,” Adebayo said. “But Aunty Faithia stood by me. She immediately countered my dad and promised that I would direct five of her upcoming films. That opportunity launched my career.”

He credited her support with giving him the breakthrough he needed, adding that some of the films they worked on together became major hits and cemented his reputation in the industry.

Adebayo emphasized the importance of recognizing and appreciating those who stand by you during difficult times. He also urged fans and the public to stop assuming that close relationships between men and women must be romantic.

“It saddens me that people think closeness always equals dating,” he concluded. “Let’s learn to respect genuine relationships for what they truly are.”
