President Bola Tinubu has submitted a ₦1.78 trillion budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the National Assembly, urging lawmakers to prioritize its swift approval to drive development across the capital.
The budget proposal was conveyed through a letter read by House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during Tuesday’s plenary session. Tinubu noted that the move aligns with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which authorizes the president to present the FCT budget to the legislature.
According to the president, the proposed budget aims to enhance critical sectors such as healthcare, social welfare, agriculture, and job creation.
“This budget is intended to stimulate growth in health services, social welfare programs, agricultural productivity, and employment opportunities,” Tinubu stated.
Providing a breakdown of the budget, he revealed that 85% of the funds would be allocated to ongoing infrastructure and development projects, while the remaining 15% would support new initiatives.
President Tinubu appealed for expedited consideration of the proposal, emphasizing its importance in fast-tracking the FCT’s development: “I urge the National Assembly to give this budget the urgent attention it deserves for the benefit of the nation’s capital.”
