Ilerioluwa Aloba, known to fans as Mohbad, died on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that triggered widespread outrage and sorrow across Nigeria. Nearly 20 months later, the question of his final burial remains unanswered.
He was initially buried a day after his death, a decision his father, Joseph Aloba, attributed to Yoruba customs. “In Yoruba culture, when both parents are alive, the body isn’t kept,” he explained.
However, public pressure for a proper investigation led to Mohbad’s exhumation for an autopsy. His remains have since remained in the morgue, pending final burial arrangements.
Joseph Aloba has repeatedly stated that no one may proceed with burial plans without his consent. “Nobody should go and take his body. If anything is to be done, I’ll be the one to authorize it,” he said in a social media post, emphasizing his desire for justice first.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that only the family can request the release of the body. “Fans and well-wishers do not have the legal right to make that request,” said spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin.
As time stretches on, many continue to call for a proper, respectful burial a final farewell that honors the legacy Mohbad left behind.
