Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the recent Edo State election, Asuerime Ighodalo, to accept the Court of Appeal’s ruling that upheld Governor Monday Okpebholo’s election victory.

Wike, a senior figure within the PDP, advised Ighodalo to respect the judgment delivered last Thursday and, in the interest of peace and progress in Edo State, “let sleeping dogs lie.”

In a statement released Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike congratulated Governor Okpebholo on the appellate court’s affirmation of his election. He urged the governor to remain focused on delivering good governance and the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo.

Expressing confidence in Okpebholo’s leadership, Wike described the judgment as further validation of the mandate freely given to the governor by the people of Edo State.

“I have observed Governor Okpebholo since he took office, and I can say he has been performing well for the state and its citizens,” Wike said. “I believe in his leadership and I’m confident that his administration will leave a lasting and positive impact on Edo State.”
