Xabi Alonso is set to take three key members of his Bayer Leverkusen backroom staff with him when he takes over as head coach at Real Madrid. The Spanish manager confirmed on Friday that he will step down from his role at the German club at the end of the current season.

Alonso will succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabéu, with Ancelotti and his staff including his son and assistant, Davide Ancelotti expected to depart.

According to Bild, Alonso will be accompanied to Madrid by assistant coach Sebastian Parilla, fitness coach Ismael Camenforte-Lopez, and physical coach assistant Alberto Encinas.

The 43-year-old, who previously played for both Real Madrid and Liverpool, took charge of Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022. Since then, he has guided the team to its first-ever Bundesliga title and led them to a European record 49-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
