Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has pledged unwavering loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, declaring he will fully support whatever direction the President chooses ahead of the 2027 general elections even if it includes being named Tinubu’s running mate.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Barau responded to mounting calls from political stakeholders urging Tinubu to consider him for the vice presidency.
“Whatever the President asks me to do, I will do it—100 per cent,” Barau affirmed.
“He is my political father. If he calls on me to work alongside him, I’ll simply say, ‘Thank you, sir,’ and I’ll do it.”
Representing Kano in the Senate, Barau cautioned that discussions about the 2027 elections were premature. He called on politicians and supporters to focus instead on backing the Tinubu administration’s developmental agenda.
“President Tinubu is making earnest efforts to reposition Nigeria and confront the challenges he inherited. He stood by me during my own difficult moments in Kano.
He’s a compassionate, open-minded leader—truly a father of the nation. Our priority right now is to support him and ensure he succeeds. His success is our collective success.”
While expressing appreciation to those promoting his name for future political roles, Barau said he had urged them to redirect their enthusiasm toward supporting the President’s current governance efforts rather than early campaigning.
“When the time for politics comes, we’ll cross that bridge. For now, let’s focus on supporting the President,” he reiterated.
Barau also underscored his deep-rooted commitment to Tinubu and the progressive political movement they share.
“I am a committed progressive. Loyalty is a core value for me, and I remain 100 per cent loyal to Mr. President.”
