Campaign-style posters of renowned broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat have appeared across the streets of Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, fueling speculation about a possible political run in the 2027 general elections.
The posters, emblazoned with the slogan “2027: Oyo n pe o” (Oyo is calling), feature a bold, black-themed image of Hamzat but remain silent on the specific political office he may be eyeing.
In a video shared by a support group, Hamzat founder of Agidigbo FM was seen engaging with an enthusiastic crowd at an event, where supporters urged him to take up the political mantle.
“Okiki (Hamzat), Oyo is calling you. Answer their call,” they chanted.
Responding to criticism about his lack of political experience, a statement posted on the official ‘Oyo n pe o’ social media accounts defended Hamzat’s suitability for public office.
“The idea that ‘governance is more than speaking into a microphone’ misunderstands leadership. Broadcasting is about communication, empathy, and connection all essential to effective governance.”
“Reducing Oriyomi Hamzat to his profession is both unfair and shortsighted. Leadership is ultimately about vision, courage, and service.”
Another viral clip shows Ibadan-based influencer Funny Thinker appealing directly to Hamzat.
“He said he won’t rest if we don’t. Okiki, son of Hamzat, we are calling you. Please answer us in 2027.”
Hamzat, with a touch of humor, responded: “You will all be alright,” leaving his political intentions ambiguous.
As of press time, Hamzat has not released an official statement regarding the speculations.
