The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), is welcome to return to the ruling party and collaborate with President Bola Tinubu.
The APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka made this known during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Show on Monday. His comments come amid rising speculation that Kwankwaso might defect to the APC following the recent resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as the party’s national chairman.
“Kwankwaso is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Anyone who wishes to join the APC may do so, this includes him,” Morka said. “Our doors are always open to those who want to be part of our mission, work with the president, and help deliver on the goals of this administration.”
Describing Kwankwaso as one of Nigeria’s notable political figures, Morka stressed that the APC would handle his possible return through the same procedures applicable to all new members, whether governors, lawmakers, or ordinary citizens.
“If he chooses to join tomorrow, we will process his request like we’ve done for others. We celebrate every individual who joins us, and we aim to continue growing as a party,” he added.
Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence and two-term governor of Kano State, first joined the APC in 2013 after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He returned to the PDP in 2018 along with several APC senators. In 2022, he moved to the NNPP, under which he contested the 2023 presidential election, finishing fourth with over 1.4 million votes.
