Olajide Adediran, widely known as Jandor and the 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has shared his insights on the ongoing challenges facing the party.

In a recent interview, Jandor argued that Atiku Abubakar’s win in the 2023 presidential primary was not the sole or main reason behind the PDP’s decline.

Speaking on Channels TV last Sunday, Jandor  who has since rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) contrasted the internal dynamics of the PDP and APC.

While acknowledging that the PDP conducts democratic candidate selections, he noted a significant difference in how each party enforces “party supremacy.”

Jandor remarked, “The PDP can be very democratic in choosing candidates, which is commendable… but it is also the only party where leaders instruct their supporters not to back a candidate simply because he wasn’t their preferred choice.”

Though Atiku’s primary win was fair, Jandor explained that internal fractures and a lack of unified support for the party’s nominee unlike the APC’s practice where “everyone falls in line” weakened the PDP’s chances in the election. He stressed that despite a transparent process, some key PDP figures actively worked against their own candidate.
