Nigerian rapper and music executive Jude Abaga, widely known as MI Abaga, has voiced deep sorrow over the latest wave of killings in Benue State, urging for an end to the violence and standing in solidarity with the victims.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, MI wrote “My heart is heavy. It grieves me deeply to see so much of the Middle Belt bleed. The recent killings in Benue are not just statistics — they are our people, our families, our communities being torn apart.”
He added “I stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters in Benue. Your pain is my pain. We can’t normalise this cycle of violence that has plagued our land for too long. To those we’ve lost: we will not forget you. To those still standing, we stand with you.”
His statement follows the brutal killing of over 100 people during a two-day attack in Guma Local Government Area, reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen. Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes, including victims being burned alive and entire households wiped out.
Local authorities fear the actual death toll could be even higher.
The massacre has sparked widespread outrage. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar described the situation as a “national emergency” and called on both federal and state governments to respond with urgency and transparency.
Across social media, Nigerians are demanding stronger action, including calls for a state of emergency to be declared in Benue.
