Nigerian media personality Okuneye Idris, widely known as Bobrisky, has taken a swipe at members of the National Assembly for their silence over the ongoing violence in Benue State, where hundreds have reportedly been killed.

In a strongly worded Instagram post on Monday, Bobrisky condemned the lawmakers for what he described as a display of misplaced priorities.

He noted that while legislators were quick to convene meetings over his recent legal case, they have failed to address the tragic killings in Benue with the same urgency.

He wrote “Senators and House of Reps members didn’t call an urgent meeting over the killings in Benue. But they called one quickly when it was about Bobrisky. Shame, shame!!!! Shame!!! What a shameful country.”

In 2024, Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged abuse of the naira. Though found guilty, he reportedly did not serve a prison term, sparking widespread public debate and political commentary.

Meanwhile, public outrage continues to grow across Nigeria, with many citizens calling on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Benue State. According to reports, over 200 people were killed within just 48 hours by suspected herdsmen.

The apparent inaction has fueled online criticism, especially when contrasted with the federal government’s swift intervention in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended and a state of emergency declared in March 2025 following political unrest.
