The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail on self-recognition to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended representative of Kogi Central Senatorial District.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is facing a six-count charge bordering on alleged cybercrime. She pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

The Federal Government accuses her of spreading false and inflammatory statements targeting Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

Among the claims is a serious allegation that Akpabio encouraged Bello to orchestrate her assassination in a way that would appear as local violence in Kogi.

Prosecutors say the statements, which circulated widely on social media and were repeated in national media interviews, were deliberately false and aimed at inciting public unrest.

They contend her actions violate Section 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, which prohibits the spread of false information intended to harm reputations or disrupt public peace.

Her lawyer, Professor Roland Otaru (SAN), applied for bail on self-recognition, citing her status as a sitting senator and a senior legal professional. The prosecution did not object.

Justice Mohammed Umar approved the bail request and scheduled the trial to resume on September 22.
