Veteran Afrobeats star D’banj has announced plans for a joint music tour with fellow Nigerian music icons, 2Baba (formerly 2Face) and Timaya.
Speaking in an interview with Adesope Live in London, the ‘Oliver Twist’ crooner reflected on the growth of Afrobeats from its West African roots in the 2000s to its current status as a global music force.
D’banj credited the genre’s success not only to artists and industry professionals but also to the unwavering support of the African diaspora.
“I was talking to Timaya, and he said, ‘Banger, it’s time to come out again.’ I agreed,” D’banj revealed. “2Baba also reached out he wants us to go on tour together. We’ve all built strong discographies, and there’s enough room in the market for us all.”
D’banj also teased a new single with 2Baba, titled Feeling Good, which may serve as the theme for their upcoming tour. “For everyone who’s been waiting, thank you. This tour is a way of showing our gratitude.”
Reflecting on the early days of Afrobeats, D’banj said, “Back then in London, it wasn’t cool to say you were Nigerian everyone was pretending to be Jamaican. Now, Afrobeats is everywhere. You can’t watch a UK film without hearing our music. It’s a proud moment for all Africans.”
