Local News Democracy Day: Ogun PDP criticizes Gov Abiodun’s administration Modupeola Showunmi June 12, 2025 The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday delivered a scathing critique of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, accusing it of poor governance and lack of accountability. In a Democracy Day statement issued by the party’s chairman, Abayomi Tella, the PDP alleged that the Abiodun-led government had failed to deliver on its promises, describing its six-year rule as largely ineffective. According to the opposition, the state has witnessed minimal progress in critical sectors such as road infrastructure, healthcare, and education, despite significant financial inflows. Tella pointed out that major infrastructure projects, including the Agro-Cargo Airport and key road links between Ogun and Lagos, remain incomplete. He lamented that even projects inherited from previous administrations have stalled, and new initiatives announced during campaign periods have yet to materialize. The PDP also accused the state government of executing development unevenly, with an alleged bias toward the governor’s hometown of Iperu and its environs. Neglect of rural communities like Ogun Waterside, Imeko, Yewa North, and Ipokia was cited as a glaring example of this imbalance. The party further criticized the deteriorating state of public health services, claiming that primary healthcare centers lack personnel and resources. On education, the PDP said that despite government claims, many public schools—particularly in rural areas—depend on community self-help to operate, contributing to the growing number of out-of-school children. In terms of youth empowerment and job creation, the PDP dismissed government programs as superficial and alleged that many were being used to siphon public funds for private gain. Tella also condemned the administration for poor communication with citizens, lack of town hall meetings, and alleged favoritism in project locations and recruitment. He noted that the details of public spending, such as those related to the recently held Gateway Games, remain undisclosed despite calls for transparency. “Democracy and the people of Ogun State have both suffered under Governor Abiodun’s administration,” Tella declared. He, however, urged residents not to lose hope, assuring them that relief and better leadership were on the horizon. When approached for a response, the governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said, “I will get back to you.” Advertisement Tags: Dapo Abiodun Ogun PDP Post navigation Previous Previous post: FULL LIST: Tinubu Awards National Honours to Kudirat Abiola, Wole Soyinka, Ken Saro-Wiwa, OthersNext Next post: Troops eliminate terrorist leader Auta, 14 others in Zamfara Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published.
